The consonants they use aren't true consonants as we know them. Most are phonetically modified via aspirations and other methods. For example in English when you make the [p] sound, it's different whether you say "pots" or "stop". Same letter, same sound, but one is usually aspirated and hence a different phoneme. This allows you to transition to another consonant, say [f] in the form of pfft or via psst. Their language appears to do this many times over which is pretty cool.
