For example, nostrils are holes connected to the hole that goes from mouth to anus.
Further possible questions: are earholes connected to said hole too? Should we consider the urethra to be a hole? How many connected components are there? These could be valid points considering how the fundamental group changes.
My suggested starting point is to consider a topological 2-fold (surface) embedded in R^3, ignoring pores for simplicity.
