is there math for music? i m trying to transcribe a song i hear from my memory but by improvising which means nailing each notes as precise as possible by memory...

so the questtion is... since music can be dissonant and consonant... how do you choose th chords to be as similar to the tone you hear by relative? are there formulas to define the next possible similar chords based on the previous chords and the song itself and maybe scales or progressions?
