There are a billion companies and quants all using the same trading algorithms and they all barely return the market average.
If I could find a group of people willing to take on the cost of pulling down twitter post data and reddit post data for search terms and hashtags associated with the top 100 or so stocks currently moving.. I think 'trading the news' has an evolution in social media posts and their reflection of market sentiment.
I'd actually postulate that if you could drag out negative and positive word associations around company names from twitter posts you could accurately predict daily market trends quite easily.
Hurr elon tweeted about some company or ceo
Is it positive of negative
What's the stock
Buy / sell
line up with trailing and leading stops
Retire
But the data is expensive to draw down
