Is classical mechanics actually deterministic? Information and entropy are considered to be equivalent measures, so if entropy increases, the information content of the universe also increases over time. Doesn't that imply indeterminism?

What? The fact that entropy increases isn't a hard fact or anything. It's possible for entropy to decrease, just very unlikely.

Yes, and? Factually entropy still increases, which means the absolute information content of the universe also increases. I want to know whether that implies indeterminism.

Are you an idiot? Indeterminism vs. determinism is an absolute state of existence whereas entropy increasing is an entirely practical matter. It's like saying because I drive to the store most days, F=ma.

Is it REALLY though? Entropy is a statistical process, yes, but if determinism holds true the outcome of that statistical process was always set in stone, so entropy increasing wasn't a "practical matter", but rather also set in stone from the beginning.

classically, there are only a finite number of states for the universe to be in. if you measured the position of every particle at one time along with their velocity, you could predict the future. the second law only says that entropy can't decrease with time. in this case, there is only one possible state at the time of measurement, and you can perfectly predict the future, so entropy is constant (non-decreasing) because the multiplicity is 1.
