That means that you will have an advantage in learning composition when you have a good understanding of patterns and predicting them. If you don't have any practice in an intellectual field of course you will have difficulties keeping up with people who started ten years ago and have broad empirical knowledge.
There's a reason why many academically accomplished people are good at music too.
