> self-replicating DNA -> complex epigenetic structure that maintains DNA
> self replicating cell -> mammal with coordinated epigenetic structure allowing for embyrogenesis
> mammal -> intelligent mammal
The probability of abiogenesis -> intelligent mammal is somewhere around 1 in 10^900. Our own existence is easily explained by the anthropic principle. There are many many universes, and therefore there will eventually be one that has this tiny probability be realized. All conscious life in a universe by definition is born in a universe that allows for conscious life, so we fall into this trap of thinking that life might actually be common in our universe, when it's not even close. In reality, there are trillions and trillions of zombie universes that have similar conditions to ours, but no life in sight.
