because mental disorders are those sets of behaviors that we chose to single out as a medical condition, and we haven't done that with "otherkinness" specifically. Although of course it's comorbid with many mental illnesses that we have chosen to taxonomize.

Psychology is viable but everyone in that field who isn't an idiot is employed in the advertising industry. Psychology as a tool for diagnosing and treating mental health issues is of course pseudoscience run by the idiots that couldn't get a job in the advertising industry.

Otherkin wouldn't be a mental illness by itself. They possibly could get a delusional disorder or body dysmorphic disorder diagnosis with that delusion as a symptom, but no one cares enough to round up the otherkin and it risks enabling some major abuses of psychiatry.
