Maybe you could think of ants as a sort of computing hivemind/intelligence where individual ants are like neurons and their movements are the process by which "cognition" takes place. On the one hand, that would mean a lot more latency than we humans have with our electrochemical brains. But on the other hand, you have to appreciate the sheer effectiveness and efficiency of ants. On a macro scale they show very keen "intelligence" and ability to adapt. They are perhaps the most successful creature on earth. They have lived for a long time, and inhabit all environments on the planet. Their biomass surpasses that of humanity.
