>>12752148>Is gender reassignment surgery an ethical medical procedure? This will be an unpopular comment for many people I'm sure but I'm not saying it out of hate.
Ignoring for the moment how the procedure is done? Yes, it's 'ethical'.
However *how* it's done is barbaric, and nigh-unto unworkable.
The fact of the matter, in my opinion, is that it's tragic that some people are born with a psyche that doesn't match their physiology. It's a cruel misfire of genetics that leaves a sentient being with no real good choices: they can either live a life that feels like a lie, never feeling comfortable in their own body, or they can try to twist their psyche into matching their physiology, or they can have barbaric, unsophisticated surgery done, and have to take hormones the rest of their natural lives, but only ever superficially appear to be the same gender as their psyche. All the above seem to lead to suicide in a startling number of cases, because none of the 'solutions' are terribly good.
It's tragic. The whole thing is tragic, and I have great sympathy for anyone who has to endure this.
Even gay people are comfortable in their bodies, usually, they just prefer the opposite gender, but enough of them have told me that it's no picnic being gay, and some have said to me they wish they weren't -- but they accept who they are, so it's okay.
For someone whose mind and body are mismatched like this, it just seems as though there's no peace.
One other thing I want to say here: hating on trans people is pretty fucking shitty. You have NO IDEA what it is they're going through every waking moment, and you never will, so STFU.
