What causes people to be interested in different things in life?

Why are some people interested in math or music, whereas other people might be interested in literature or history? Why do some people have wide interests whereas others have narrow?

Experience. You have to be exposed to something to have an emotional response to it. The emotional response comes from the success/frustration concerning it, as well as the encouragement from authorities or members of a community, either practicants or friends and family.
And of course things may be grouped in how they relate. A person who has always had more technically-inclined interests will likely have a bia for such matters over those that may be more artistic or whatever.

People tend to like what they're good at, given the 7 spheres of intelligence its just as likely that people may enjoy science because of a weakness in other areas (like the part of the brain that relates to others, socializing)
