>>12749676High there. I am double bachelors in exploration geophysics and geotechnical engineering from Boise state. Geology has many applications in mining, petroleum and natural gas. That is where most geologists in the private sector work. All three of which pay quite handsomely, even for people straight fresh out of school. The average salary for a petroleum geologist with a bs is $106,000 Anually. A petroleum geologist with a masters could easily make $150,000 a year, the top paying ones can earn twice that much. Geologists are needed for civil engineering as well. Gotta make sure you are building structures on ground that is not going to collapse the next time there is an earthquake. Volcanologists are also needed in consulting roles for government and private sectors near volcanic activity and for places where there are geothermal energy plants.
Currently in the United States needs to be graduated about 30,000 geologists a year to meet market demand. On average, only about 20,000 graduate annually.
Geology is almost entirely done in the field. I get paid just under $110,000 annually to go on camping trips, hikes, adventures, to be in nature and breathe fresh air. I am in the best shape of my life and I love my job
Life is good, bros
