>>12749823Call me a retard, I am sure this has been obvious to many of you, but that one picture made me realize something I wasn't aware of before. Hear me out if you will.
The way most men dress in boring, nearly identical, clothes. Shirts and ties. Same standard haircuts.Very little individual identity expressed through their physical appearance. While women wear a huge variety of clothes, have a variety of hair styles and can enhance facial features with a variety of makeup.. Then add accessories like jewellery.
I realize now that for men the style is kept plain and simple because men are concerned with what they contribute, not what their appearance is like. For many women appearances are most important, their actual contribution is secondary.
Its not that appearance matters not to men, its more that appearance is a deliberate signal that they are a team player who recognizes actions as valuable rather than ideals. A man who bucks this trend is sending a message that his appearance and social status as an individual is more important than his actual contribution, and is therefore frequently regarded with suspicion and distrust by other men.
Yes I am retarded. I just hadn't understood this on a conscious level before. As a autistic retard I used to buck the trend, completely unaware that I was sending a signal of this type. In my case it was because I simply didn't think my clothing and appearance was significant in any regard and therefore paid scant attention to it. I eventually learned it was not productive for the environment I worked in, but was always puzzled about it, considering it of no importance.
