Sounds comfy desu.
Engineering undergrad was brutal and the job market looks terrible, so I am thinking about doing data science MSc, as I've already done a ton of it ,and jumping into work.

I have a PhD in physical sciences, did a postdoc, spent years as a researcher at a government laboratory, and quit it all to go into data science. Haven't looked back.

I'm a supervisor and my students do, yes. Plus sometimes some FEM software or so, depending on the project. Although we're transitioning to using fenics right now.

Depends on your former knowledge and your expertise in ML. Which specialization of ME interests you the most? Structural mechanics, CFD, methodological work?
Python is pretty much automatically involved when doing ML.

I don't have any real experience with ML beyond some basic tutorials with small data sets, basically fluff. I don't start my final project for another 8 months.
