You can imagine it on a micro scale, where a village reaches Dunbar's number and splits in two, like the mitosis of a cell, but in each event the 'whiter' community head north. This happens repeatedly overtime until the white race has grown out of Africa by endeavour, and although the living is tougher up north, it's this toughness that creates the split between races and the intellect that is required to survive.
