Brainlet question about Biology/Disease

So I'm currently reading about Duchenne muscular dystrophy and how gene therapy can potentially cure it. As I understand it Duchennes is caused by mutations which cause the absence of the Dystrophyn protein.

So my question is why can't they just inject the patient intra-muscularly with the missing protein? Or if you can't just straight inject it, why can't you create a delivery mechanism?
