the entire temperature scale is arbitrary anyway since to the best of my knowledge we have no concept of quantum temperature.
therefore since the scale is arbitrary it should be base 10 since we use base 10 math. after that, it's just a matter of determining appropriate anchor points.
since water is ubiquitous it makes sense to base the scale upon that.
therefore, setting the freezing point of water at 1atm as 0 and the boiling point as 100 is perfectly logical.
the only other system that makes more sense is Kelvin, which is just the Celcius scale shifted with 0 as absolute 0.
an argument could theoretically be made to shift the scale based on the critical points of hydrogen or some other element, but water is fine.
the Fahrenheit scale is just pure retardation though so it's not really even worth discussing
