Not really, that's the old retarded explanation. Put simply without math, the underside of the wing deflects air molecules downwards because they can't go through the wing. The curved shape of the topside when moving through airflow essentially generates new empty volume that sucks air molecules into it (Coanda effect) and thus changes the direction of the molecules. The under and topsides can work independently and the lift force depends just on how much air massflow the wing directs downwards.
