A bit after enough people are vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, so it depends on how much they fuck up the distribution. Everyone *should* be vaccinated by the end of the year but the rollout has been extremely incompetent in a lot of places so far so it might take longer.

Route 1: politics change because people get mad and angry. Basically we will accept more people to die. Not very likely. But if elections are coming up in a country then it might be possible.

Route 2: 80% of a population is vaccinated. This is a simple example based on Dutch data I did myself using some simple regression stuff in desmos. Take the amount of people getting vaccinated. Plot a linear regression graph. Find the intersecpt with 0.8 * nr of people in the country. Based on Dutch data I got the answer 150 weeks with that linear regression so 3 years. With exponential regression I got 30 weeks. So it will probably be in between those numbers.

Route 3: most likely. The government opens parts of the economy and closes parts repeated for weeks on end to just delay the virus with the hope the most important people are saved and taken care of in good working hospitals.

You're assuming that politicians and the government are primarily acting in the best interest of the people and not simply using the perceived situation as a means to more power. You somewhat address this partially in route 1 but ignore it in routes 2 and 3. There's no reason for governments to give power back to the people unless they're forced to do so. Throughout world history there are only a very small number of cases where a central authority willingly ceded power back to the people without being forced to do so.
