If a CME similar to the Carrington Event of 1859 were to happen today (some sources say there’s a 12% chance every decade) would the destruction of power grids and the resulting societal chaos send us back to pre industrial society?

I feel like as society begins to suffer from ecological collapse, and as automation shifts us from late stage capitalism to early stage techno feudalism, would a solar flare save us? Not to mention all the Black Mirror technology we’d blissfully avoid.
