I've heard a story about an AI robot who was taught to do some task. If he succeeded, his goal function was getting +10 points and fail caused -10. But then its developers decided that giving it a -10 fine was too cruel. So they adjusted the rating system and now he got +10 for the failure and +30 for being successful. That fixed the bot abuse concern.

It's not meant to be an argument. It's meant to give OP the information he needs to think for himself.

An actual argument would be:
The empirical evidence points to pain being the product of our nervous system performing processes. AI could be made to have similar processes, assuming AI can be made at all.

There are two options:
We have souls, so AI will never be like us unless it gets a soul from whoever gives those out.
We're just a collection of neurons, basically what an AI is. Given enough time, the AI will be the same as, if not better than humans at being human. More human than human.

But an AI could feel pain either way, given the right anatomy.
