I absolutely do NOT recommend taking either unless you have a serious health or mental health need because they can radically alter your perspective on life and your personal existence, in a way that might be traumatic and irreversible.
If you are fine with that, or actively pursue it, they are without a doubt the most powerful nootropic tools in existence, simply because they re-rout intrinsic brain activity through sensory systems. In terms of visual hallucinations you can literally perceive the geometric mathematical structure of cells in the visual area and how they translate information from the retina. That's where most psychedelic art comes from, people experiencing things like that.
In general they allow you to make connections and relate seemingly unrelated pieces of data to one another. Even if they are wholly unrelated, it still has the potential to give the user some kind of insight by seeing how disparate the formative processes are of whatever phenomena you are mentally comparing. If they are related, psychedelics significantly enhance pattern recognition and allow users to see underlying processes.
