I would figure that if you have extensive knowledge
and experience with proving things in homework
(common for a math major), a lot of time would
go to constructing and tweaking the proof so
that it works. Perhaps a bit of out of the box,
backdoor process goes on in the mind that
would work out nicely to the task at hand.

In any case, it's what any math major would
do, even if one misses the "unsolvable" part
of the lecture. I figured Riemann's Hypothesis
is unsolvable even after reading about the
zeta function and making connections for some
time. It doesn't mean though anyone would
stop if they have the time, knowledge and
experience to solve Riemann's Hypothesis.
