Working memory is a better indicator for g that short term memory. group differences are bigger in Working memory than short term memory.
The fact that IQ test performance can be "trained" actually has the opposite effect you think it does. It masks the differences between groups, because the otherwise under preforming group can improve, meanwhile on subtests that are more innate to improvement actually show more pronounced differences in groups.
