Maybe my country is a bit old fashioned, but our lectures are very information dense, and we have to take at least 20 credits a semester to not get kicked out, but if you want to be done with your studyes in 3 years for bsc or 2 for msc, you have to take at least 30 credits a semester. So larger volumes of greater density. Oh, and its free.
Over all, i think the reason it might be worth going to a uni like MIT, is they are well funded. I think my uni is great, but damn is it underfunded. The cryostat microtome we use for histology is 70 years old.
