Sure, they can simplify complex subjects enough to communicate the gist of said subjects and are charismatic enough to keep your average person engaged while they do it, that's a valuable skill, no question.
But I don't think they do enough to clarify that they are indeed simplifying matters. It feels like people who watch this stuff come out thinking that just listening to these people give a thirty minute lecture makes THEM scientists. It's like they say "a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. Especially when these scientists are unabashedly mixing in political rhetoric with some of their lectures. They trick their audience into believing that their scientific credentials translate to political acumen. They don't hesitate to use their scientific knowledge as a cudgel to bash people they disagree with politically over the head. This includes fellow scientists in their field who may call them out. They simply disparage these people, telling their followers that their opponents credentials aren't as important.
