it is not a joke. the "humor" achieved is done by juxtaposing the serious and the absurd. euclid in this comic is a symbol representing academic discipline and the child is modern wordliness or even the reader themselves, foolish and mischievious. this, along with the references to the "new kids on the block" and the aforementioned euclid, are meant to add a veneer of thoughtfulness, as the reader associates these references with their mental categories, they get the illusion of thinking, and are able to let themselves laugh at this childish foolishness, thinking it clever. this is the kind of stuff midwits enjoy, brainlets don't understand the references but anyone with a proper temperament is overwhelmed by disgust to find it humorous. i am sorry you are using this artifact to learn about our culture, this is not representative of western intellectualism, but it is of our pop-culture, but it requires familiarity with our brand of fools.
