What's the rundown on helium 3, is it only useful for (meme) fusion power or are there other real world applications for it?

Helium-3 is used in dilution refrigerators, which are used to cool things down to mK temperatures.
This is important for cryogenic devices such as superconducting quantum computers and is the typical thing you see when you see a photo of a quantum computer.

It is used quite extensively in neutron detection for its very favorable (n,p) cross section. Unique thermodynamic properties also give it uses in ultra low temperature refrigeration and condensed matter research

Short version: no
Long answer: Helium-3 is not useful as a fusion fuel. The coulomb barrier is too high, the fusion is not aneutronic, can't be done with intertial confinement like the boron thermonuclear fission/fusion reactors.
Having a boatload of helium-3 is not valuable, beyond its niche scientific and medical value.
