You obviously learn more preparing for and taking a hard open book, open note exam than you do taking a closed resource exam under high time stresses, right?

In the sense that the open book exam can be essentially a project/HW assignment and therefore require much more thought and effort, sure. But also people can cheat and then the curve for the class (if it matters) gets fucked. Give and take.

I've been concerned about that too. I just think it's pointless to have 10% of the grade be homework when you spend so much time doing it and that's where the bulk of the challenge lies, then they dumb it all down before tests (thankfully, I might add (brainlet here)).

At the very least I'd be more supporting of equivalently-weighted homework and tests.
