It does you retard. Look up TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation).

It has some pretty interesting effects. If you want to know more read Switched On by John Elder Robinson. Its a memoir from a man with autism who had the treatment.

I've heard of using strong special magnets to alter the brain but what if you put a regular magnet next to your head would that do anything? And what about a magnetic imaging scan? Why don't those cause brain damage then?

Speaking out of my ass right now but TMS is extremely high intensity targeted/focused short bursts of magnetic stimulation.

If I had to guess, it takes a lot to get through the skull. MRI, magnets and all of that shizzle probably doesn't have enough intensity in one area to make significant changes in the brain.
