Einstein derived a slightly different formalization of the same transformation law starting from a postulate of a constant speed of light. Minkowski found yet another derivation starting from a postulate of flat spacetime.
The transformation wasn't what Einstein got all the praise and fame for though, it was for doing what Lorentz and Poincare didn't think to do: Not just applying it to problems in electromagnetics, but applying the transformation to the general dynamics equations and developing a relativistic version of the laws of motion and realizing that things like length contraction and time dilation had physically real implications and weren't simply mathematical artifacts.
