Why isn't there support for a Manhattan style project for discovering and harnessing fusion or anti-matter or any new energy source capable of propelling us into a near infinite energy future?

Instead, environmentalists groups and their political allies focus on low efficiency power sources and introduce bills like the Green New Deal which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a trojan horse for introducing identity politics bullshit and affirmative action.
