iirc it's because it was cross listed. The course itself is like senior level maturity. If I had to pick a graduate level TCS course, I'd do it out of a book like this:

what the flying fuck are you talking about? They're literally all easy. (a) is just using some basic Boolean algebra to simplify circuits, at most using some k-map.
(b) is full of problems that take 1 second. the problem i is literally a definition. in ii, f is bijective because you can produce an inverse that is both a right and left inverse, or you could just show it directly from definition. similar story with iii, and iv is literally just a sketch.
(c) is immediately a factorial. ii. is literally rote calculation and then the simplest fucking induction you can imagine.

Dude, what do you mean "you don't know what you're talking about?" This is literally intro material.

Discrete math is deceptively simple. The problem is that it's very poorly taught and the questions are also often written in a stupid way. The questions that are a total cancer to deal with is 'proving' shit. The induction thing is totally retarded. While it's simple in theory in practice it can get convoluted.

Discrete math is literally the mainstream way in how proofs translate to directly useful results in CS. You study discrete math to realize that so many problems can be described using LP’s, to figure out that many clever algorithms are just constructions from combinatorial proofs, etc etc.
If your takeaway from discrete is that proofs suck, you didn’t learn discrete properly.
