The price per kg to orbit based on total program cost has dropped a lot.
As for why SpaceX is charging $50m instead of $10m I think it's partly that it costs more than $10m for a launch and partly that they are a for profit company. Why would anyone come in 80% cheaper than the competetion when you can be 20% cheaper and still get all the contracts?

We don't know because the books aren't public.

What we don't know is SpaceX has gotten ~$8b government funding and put ~581,000 kg into orbit.
$13769 per kg, not including launch costs

We also know the shuttle got ~$209b government funding, I'm having a real hard time finding a source for total payload to orbit.
If you can find a source of total shuttle payload to orbit we'll have something to work with.

The military needed vertical intergration and SpaceX said if you want it you are paying for the infrastructure.
If you think this is good or bad is up to you but remember that ULA also has the government pay for their infrastructure.

They do. For 15.6t to LEO, the Falcon 9 costs $50M. ULA's equivalent, the Atlas 541, costs $73M for the same payload and destination.

According to SpaceX, "Low pressure in the fuel header tank during the landing burn led to high touchdown velocity resulting in a hard (and exciting!) landing."

In simpler terms, SN8’s fuel header tank experienced low pressure as the rocket descended, which caused the rocket to land too quickly and therefore too hard, which caused the explosion.

Why was SN8 venting pressure while this was happening?
Why the fuck would the release valve be located practically inside the cockpit?

As far as i understand, spacex doesn't charge in this case. The USAF will pay the same amount to either ULA or spacex for the same launch just as so they're guaranteed at least two launch providers for national security payloads. The government just hands huge amounts out.

And in any case, if you're still wondering if spacex overcharges, just look at Commercial Crew where fucking boeing wanted additional money per seat due to their "high quality"

This. Musk isn't above screwing people over and he's memed himself into a position we're the government nearly has to use his services because the public loves him and wants to see space x succeed. Everybody jacks up prices when it's a government contract because they are morons with too much money. We'll only see a big drop in cost when competition heats up OR space x goes public which is probably 10 years away IF it ever happens at all.
