Is it just a coincidence that on a kmh speedometer the speed you are going is about the same degrees from 0 on the speedometer?

180kmh is 180 degrees from 0kmh

Doubt there is any consistency across brands and models. For the posted gauge, there's no reason to believe that it was designed with 1 kmh = 1 degree as a requirement nor is there any reason not to believe it. We simply have no insight into the designer's process. What I can say is that the meter is an arbitrary unit with no inherent relationship to the standard of dividing a circle up into 360 degree.

OP appears to have been curious if there was any natural relationship between the units of degree for a circle and those for distance. It turns out there is no natural relationship but there's nothing wrong with being curious and asking. Maybe /mlp/ would be more your speed. /sci/ is for those curious about the universe and who are willing to search for answers to their questions.
