Eating charcoal in general is bad for you, this means smoked food and burned bits are bad for you, however, eating some smoked stuff once in a while is pretty innocuous. The issue with red meat is similar. There is nothing that models particular damage over eating red meat, we may as well say this assumption is bullshit and that other common factors, like grilling said meat often, is the cause of those statistics.
Believe what you want. Red meat over white meat is innocuous. Just don't overcook shit and eat balanced.
