Firstly, while true that the cell wall is thicker and can contain dye more easily, it still needs to pass into the cell to be reduces, also the argument for saving stock does not hold water since the compound is readily available and furthermore, it is added UNdiluted to gram negative bacteria. So why not then as well?
As for your second answer; The resazurin is added before incubation for gram negative bacteria and not after. If it was just about increasing the odds, it would be added after for them as well.
