Couldn't you just make a water rich inner atmosphere to shield from radiation? Couldn't you just apply a thin film of something to block out the UV?
Couldn't you just incorporate a wax-like substance to take advantage of the phase shift energy (liquid to solid) buffers to mellow out the temperature swings?
