Is modern mathematics especially subjects related to modern algebra and algebraic "geometry" basically just mental masturbation ?
Because seriously do you really think that shit like higher category theory or even as much as i admire him anything from perelman's proof of poincare conjecture ?

Because yes theoretically differential geometry can be applied in some situations like for game engines or machine learning algorithms but most people who work in those fields don't even know about it and usually they do fine with just calculus 3 and linear algebrav and it is usually not worth the mathematician's time to find applications of his research (and some who do don't usually find crazy stuff as far as i know the progress is usualyl done by people who already work in the field and didn't know about cohomology or groupoids).

So when is it ever going to be used for something that will contribute to humanity ?

btw it's a question if any theorem/theory discovered after 2010 in algebra or algebraic topology / geometric topology or just topology lol has indeed been used anywhere useful and actually made a difference in the world then feel free to talk about it
