Getting Points of For Not Showing Your Work

I could've learned reading at a younger age had the adults running the preschool really focused on me. Even though I went to a decent private school, they were teaching math to us at a very slow level. I would always get points off because I would refuse to show my work due to being really good at doing mental math, so I ended up getting low grades in math instead of taking math classes above my grade level. I distinctly remember learning multiplication a full year before I was supposed to learn it. After school, I would go to the cafeteria where they had this program called "Young Folks" where kids would be sent if their parents took too long to come and pick them up. This older girl was sitting at one of the lunch tables doing multiplication work I've never seen before. I asked her what she was doing, and she explained everything to me. Another grade school student taught me something my teachers thought kids my age were not ready for. A lot of my mathematical potential was lost due to poor math education.
