>>12680915>What makes you think that? >The rising crime? Crime has fallen since Apartheid ended. The white population largely felt untouched by crime because Apartheid era spacial planning meant they lived in well policed neighborhoods far removed from the crime filled black shanty towns which had little to non-existed community policing. Also police weren’t too bothered with the collection of crime data in black townships and the local press was heavily censored by the Apartheid regime.
>Stagnant economy? Part of the negotiated settlement that ended Apartheid was that the black government would leave the private sector which was mostly white controlled largely untouched.Maybe South Africa’s economic outlook would look better today if it had began to diversify the economy back in the 1970’s to include black participation in the broader economy beyond that of them being mere consumers.
Any major shakeup of the economy that the black government would now undertake will see foreign investors fleeing.
>Daily blackouts There isn’t daily blackouts although there are some from time to time.
Part of the problem was that the new government spent billions on the building of those two huge power plants in Madupi and Kusile which was meant to generate more than enough electricity not only for South Africa, but for neighboring countries as well.
The Italian and Japanese companies which designed and built those power plants did a poor job while running away with money. Now it has to be fixed at a considerable cost.
The blackouts occur whenever there’s even a minor problem with one of those plants because it requires engineers to physically go through kilometers of wiring to get to the problem because the power plants are that huge.
The fault is also with the South African government for not criminally pursuing those foreign companies and recovering the money.
