Psychology changes based on the accepted political dynamic.

For example, it used to be a mental disorder to be transgender in 2013, officially recognized by most psychologists.

And it was not a mental disorder to play video games 12 hours per day.

But around 2014 or something like that, eventually once societal values started changing the official definition of transgenderism changed to no longer be a mental disorder. Politicians are now pushing to make misgendering transgenders a mental disrorder.

Gaming addiction is now an officially recognized mental illness as well.

If old phycologists were wrong about gaming disorder and all those other things then that's one thing, but if they are just changing their assertions based on whatever is politically dominant at the time, then it's definitely not science, it is just bullshit.

Oh and abnormal behaviour is completely fine. There are two ways you get treatment. You feel like you're suffering from your issues and seek help or others believe that you are a -potential- danger to yourself and or others. Then they send you to a specialist to get looked at. Any other kind of behaviour that's not law breaking is totally fine. So the premise of your thread is faulty.

Big surprise, but /sci/ is a circlejerk that doesn't know jackshit about psychology and can't tell the difference between psychologists and psychotherapists. The 'political' part of psychology is mostly social psychology but otherwise psychology can be a highly interdisciplinary field. Most psychologists I know are aware that questionnaire studies and behavioral measures are difficult to interpret and are therefore turning more and more to psychophysics and neuroscience. But even neuroscience is not perfect, and many studies simply cannot be replicated.
