College? I'm not sure how high school is doing online, but at my university we're using Respondus lockdown browser and webcam. It forces you to show your surrounding environment, and then flags anything abnormal (like other humans in the scene, your lips moving to track talking, using a phone or calculator, etc.) And the lockdown browser forces you to stay in the exam. You can't tab out or you get kicked out of the exam and can't restart without instructor permission.

I don't have enough pull in my department to get them to stop using it. I feel bad for all the students forced to use it, for reasons like what you described. It disproportionately punishes the star students. The elder faculty have lost touch and no longer care. They just want to catch the cheaters. I proposed they should just cheat proof the exams, and make them very difficult. Cowards.
