You have to understand science was invented as a way for people to agree upon what reality and objective fact is. Before science you had logical errors and inconsistencies shaping peoples concepts and beliefs about reality.

So as a method for people collectively agreeing on what is real, basically a forbidden subject would be one that can't be proven or dis-proven no mater how much it is researched.
i.e. anything that is unfalsifiable or or predicated by prejudices and biases that are part of the human condition that we can't escape

Was googling "forbidden archaeology" last summer and discovered that the wikipedia entry for "pseudo-archaology" makes it clear in the first few paragraphs that denying mainstream history is a tool for white supremacists.
