Serious question

Why is it called predicate calculus? Theres no limits being taken in predicate calculus. Why not call it predicate algebra?

Your error is to think that the word "calculus" is tied to the theory of differentiation etc. that often goes by "calculus"

You can replace the word with "scheme" or "strategy" and roughly capture the meaning of the word this way too.

I don't completely understand but I see that wikipedia notes that calculus was originally called "infinitesimal calculus" which does indicate that calculus more generally means "method of calculation". a dictionary i looked at and wikipedia both agree with this.

is algebra strictly higher level than calculus then? calculus defines a system and method of evaluating that system but algebra defines how to manipulate symbols in that system to produce new equivalent expressions?
