Can someone explain to me the difference between a CT scan and a MRI scan by the POV of a doctor?

In MRI the magnetization of nuclei (e.g. hydrogen) is disturbed with radio frequency pulses (RF) and then measure the generated signal as they dance around the main magnetic field B0. The resonant frequency is proportional to the main magnetic field and depends on the nucleus. Spatial info is encoded by using magnetic field gradient to achieve slightly different frequencies. Then you do Fourier transform to get images.

Indeed its slower, but is able to create many different contrasts depending on tissue characteristics. A big advantage is dynamic (2D+t, 3D+t) MRI, where CT due to ionizing radiation is not the best choice.
It also depends who do you want to scan... you don't care about ratiadion when you scan a 75y smoker with COPD, but you want to be careful with a 5y old kid with some chronic disease that require followup scans every 6months.
