The risk is that the gas will vasodilate your shit and you get hypoperfusion from your heart being unable to pump.

i.e. There is a very small chance, that is more related to an actual chance of death than a routine side effect of the treatment.

What if people always wake up as a different person? Like an exact copy instead of the same continuous consciousness? We would not be able to tell the difference from the outside, but person's subjective experience would end and subjective experience of another person would begin after waking up.
