>>12675584>Are you racist?Yes and no. I work in a heavily ethnic community. There are certain stereotypes that are completely true, no matter how "woke" you are on politics. Lots of drugs, violence, theft, gangs, kids with no futures, poor education, no jobs. I actually think it's more of a gender thing than a racial one. The young males from the predominant ethnic group are almost invariably retarded assholes who I usually only see doing sketchy shit on the streets, their kid is fucked up, or they got fucked up. It's fucking retarded because when I ask them questions like "what did the fluid look like"?, they puff up their chest, scowl, and give me a dirty "yea". Basically, no manners. The young females are usually only shit if they're hooked up with a troublesome male (often). One of our receptionists is taking a year off because of domestic problems (i.e. abuse; she came to work with poorly concealed black eye last summer). The middle age and elderly ethnic females are very much your typical motherly woman. Middle age males are generally okay, older males are almost always except for being stubborn. So it's hard not to look at the changing gang tags on the side of the clinic sometimes and not think "you're retards". I've been thinking of how to help the community, even going as far as considering offering tutoring, but I'm just not sure if a white guy doing that would be well received.
Does it affect my care? Maybe, but I try not to. I know it's bad form to, but I just see patients as a walking checklist. I do try to elicit their preferences when I can, but it's just information that goes into the checklist. So whether you're nigger, wop, kike, chink, honky, or poo, it doesn't matter to me unless it relates to specific ethnic/genetic things on the checklist. No, I don't believe in microaggressions.
