Developing Lab Skills

No.12669033 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Second year undergrad in chem, I just got into an undergrad research position because I wanted to develop my skills, and I never really realized how bad I sucked outside of some bullshit instructional lab. I'm not really doing anything complicated just making starting materials, had an emulsion form during my extraction and it took fucking forever to get it resolved, ended with a shitty yield. For any chem guys out there (or other subjects), is it normal to suck shit starting out in the lab? Any recommended reading or websites to help improve while I'm not in the lab?
