I purposely do this to waste other people's time and make sure any dents in their understanding aren't filled, so I keep the number 1 spot (honestly not needed. i usually set the curves for exams anyway lol)The professor, in turn, loves me since no one in STEM classes is chad enough, confident enough like me to even speak up. I've gotten so many rec letters this way.
If you're not interacting in class, you are literally flushing your money down the drain. It's what you paid for.
